Nurses to march for better pay

Saturday 21 September 2019

Nurses and supporters of their campaign for equal pay are taking to the streets of St Peter Port for a protest march today.

Anyone is welcome to join the nurses as they march through Town as part of their awareness-raising campaign for fairer pay and work conditions.

So far, negotiations between the nurses' representatives and Policy & Resources have failed to produce a satisfactory conclusion.

Several deadlines have been missed by P&R and Health & Social Care President Heidi Soulsby issued a strongly-worded statement saying that nurses' patience was wearing thin.

Deputy Soulsby is now concerned over the "very real impact that it is having on the morale of the workforce, and the broader risks that this brings for the continuity of health care provision".

Meanwhile, nurses have been stationed at the Crown Pier and Frossard House this week encouraging motorists to honk their horns in support of their cause.

The protest march will start at 11:30 at Salerie Corner.
