An audience of 55 million can now instantly watch the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society on Netflix in America.
The movie, which was released in in the UK in April and had a local premiere attended by cast and crew members - including headline star Lily James - rose to number two in the UK box office.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a historical novel by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows that was published in 2008. The novel is set in 1946 and is composed of letters written from one character to another.
Opening to largely positive reviews, the film is not yet available to view on Netflix UK, but is released on DVD on August 27.
Guernsey’s States is hoping to exploit the film’s popularity by attracting visitors to the island, and has committed to ploughing some £550,000 into additional marketing. Staying visitor numbers increased by 3% in April and 14% in May.
