Aurigny seeking help housing staff

Aurigny is looking for new ways to house their non-local crew members while they're working in Guernsey.

The airline, which is based in Guernsey and therefore keeps its aircraft in the island overnight whenever possible, often uses hotels to put up any crew members who aren't themselves based in the island.

Now, the airline is exploring other accommodation opportunities for staff who are relocating to the island, including using any spare rooms in island homes.

Sharing a message to the 24,000 people who 'like' the airline's Facebook page it asked if anyone had a spare room or other spare accommodation they'd like to put to good use.

By 'good use' Aurigny means to let to non-local cabin crew as short or long term rentals. The airline said this is because it "can't find enough lovely locals to fill our vacancies, so we have recruited some in the UK".

Explaining further, the airline's Head of Communications, PR & Marketing, Kay Leslie said it is also continuing to use local hotels for short term accommodation needs, and has recently had success in recruiting additional local staff.

"It’s not a case of us having trouble in finding accommodation," she explained. "Our HR Manager Amanda Hobart just thought it might be interesting to see what is out there."

Ms Leslie confirmed "there is no operational issue" for the airline and "fees payable will be negotiated on an individual basis".

She also said that "as an important part of the Guernsey economy and community,  we will continue to use local hotels in addition to any private accommodation to support that part of our business landscape".

The recent recruitment event held at Coco was described as a good event with a "strong take up".
