He's back!

Saturday 26 November 2022

Father Christmas will make his annual visit to St Peter Port today to turn on the town Christmas Lights.

He, his elves, and other helpers, are due to arrive late afternoon.

They'll arrive in the Bailiwick via the facilities at Boatworks at around 15:45, before the Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service brings them into town.

Stuart Tucker, Managing Director of Boatworks said he was very excited when he heard the news.

"Being the starting point for this year’s parade is very exciting and we look forward to welcoming everyone with a mince pie and a cup of hot chocolate while we wait for Father Christmas to arrive."

On leaving Boatworks, Father Christmas will take part in a parade that will go around the model yacht pond, down the Castle Emplacement and along the bus terminus before turning up Fountain Street. He'll then make his way into the Market Buildings at around 16:45.

There'll be entertainment for the crowds waiting in Market Square from 16:00, including singing from the Guernsey Hope Choir.

Following the lights being switched on Father Christmas will make his way through the Arcade, onto the High Street and down the Pollet.

He'll be collecting letters as he goes, and they can also be put into postboxes including one at the Guille-Allès Library.

Jax Robin is Acting Chair of St Peter Port Christmas Lights charity which funds the lights. She said it is always a wonderful event.

"The light switch on is a magical start to the festive season and the culmination of a huge amount of work behind the scenes. I never tire of seeing the lights being switched on and seeing St Peter Port become festive."

Mark Marshall, Managing Director of Insurance Corporation and sponsor agreed.

"We are very proud to be involved in bringing the magic of Christmas to Guernsey this year. The Christmas Parade and light switch on is a wonderful way to welcome the festive season and give everyone a chance to meet Father Christmas!"
