We might still be in lockdown but Guernsey looks ready to party with flags, bunting and colourful pictures adorning buildings and walls everywhere.

The States asked homeowners to decorate their properties last month - saying it would help signify the #GuernseyTogether theme which has been highlighted during the corona virus pandemic.

With plans for the 75th Liberation Day commemorations and celebrations ripped up and replaced with virtual events the idea was to brighten up the island while reminding everyone of our hard won freedoms.

Photographer Paul Mariess has been out for Express to capture a flavour of some of the decorations across the island, including the hand painted bunting above which was created by fellow photographer Sophie Rabey.

Paul's journey to an appointment took him past a number of decorated houses, including the one above which had a number of flags outside.

As well as requesting flags and bunting go up to signify #GuernseyTogether, guidance was issued this week regarding flying the Union and Guernsey flags for Liberation Day and VE Day. That guidance can be read HERE.

If you've not been able to get your hands on bunting, many people have been making their own, using pieces of fabric or even Guernsey Milk cartons.

Some properties are completely covered in many different flags.
