Guernsey Scouts in worldwide walk

Tuesday 14 May 2019

Guernsey Scouts have taken part in the ‘Jamboree on the Trail’ (JoTT) event which saw Scouts worldwide walk together.

The Guernsey group joined in by hiking along one of the island's most beautiful beaches and coast lines as well as creating some very special beach art.

The scouts, explorers and young leaders met at Richmond with the cubs and beavers starting at Cobo before hiking to the north of Vazon beach.

Once they were all assembled, they were tasked with creating the world scout badge which was marked out in the sand.  All the age groups collected stones and then arranged them to create a giant fleur de lis on the beach.

Afterwards, there was a short ceremony where they renewed their promise and were reminded that in their own way by hiking together, they were all going in the same direction; 'towards a better future through scouting'.

Nick Paluch, Bailiwick Commissioner, said:

"It is a perfect day to celebrate Scouting and be in the great outdoors. To have all the Islands Scout groups together is always a special occasion.

"It is important that the Scouts take part in events like this to remember that they are part of not just a large organisation within Guernsey or the Channel Islands but across the world."
