Five new gold accredited tour guides have been recognised by the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides adding to the island's list of knowledgable representatives.

Malcolm Cleal, Rosalyne Le Huray, Korinne Le Page, Soo Wellfair, and Ken Wheeler have all reached the required standard.

To qualify as a Gold standard Accredited Guide they all had to meet a number of precondition requirements including holding a valid First Aid Certificate, a minimum of three years experience as a Silver Guide and they had to submit a Portfolio showing books read, talks attended, relevant TV programmes watched as well as tour research, and 12 tours showing diversity of the subjects covered.

The criteria went further to ensure the Gold standard guides can show visitors around the island including two presentations, a coach tour, and a walking tour.

These were all designed to prove the guides could research accurately from source material, communicate facts accurately, creatively and clearly, be able to command attention and maintain the interest of the audience and be able to select suitable material and present illustrations.

Risk and hazard assessments were also judged.
