GIG GUIDE: Gigs and events this weekend 28 June

Friday 28 June 2019

This weekend signals the beginning of a "marathon" two weekends of live music across the islands as well as cultural and family events in the (here's hoping) sun.

The 15th Chaos festival at Pleinmont as well as the third Victor Hugo conference as well as another Cobo Balcony gig should mean there's something for everyone to get involved with.

There's so much going on over the next week or so that Guernsey Gigs are launching a competition for those who manage to attend every event (plus one day of rest) from now until the end of Sark Folk Festival next Sunday (full gig guide below):

Chaos arrives for the 15th time this weekend. The ‘Bikes, bands, beers and no bullshi*t’ festival has a line-up of over 50 bands, DJs and singers, with the likes of Robert J. Hunter and Joe Corbin two of the headlining artists.

The festival spans three days from midday Friday to 22:00 on Sunday. Alderney-born Robert J. Hunter has previously toured across the UK and Europe and the Robert J. Hunter band has frequently reached the number one spot on the iTunes Blues chart.

Corbin Joe

Joe Corbin (pictured) has been named ‘one to watch’ Classic Rock’s Blues Magazine and the festival has described him as a possible Blues voice for the 21st century.

Other acts such as Sub Humans, Flashmob and Insurrection will also be headlining the festival.

As well as the music, dozens of motorbikes will be showcased as owners and enthusiasts compete for trophies that the Greenman Motorcycle Club will be offering.

Strongman events, family-friendly games and a good range of food will be available for those attending. The Chaos Welly Wangers championship will not be one to miss.

For those interested in learning about arguably one of Guernsey's most famous rebel residents, the Victor Hugo Conference features food, talks and film screenings focused around the book which inspired Batman's Joker, L'Homme Qui Rit.

Families too can find free activities taking place either by attending the Cobo Balcony Gig or the Accidental Zoo open day.
