Dance festivals, Jazz bars, exhibitions and classes; there is no shortage of arts to immerse yourself in this week.

“People Using Umbrellas..." - An Exhibition by Smithsonian Rösterino

This interesting exhibition sponsored by Guernsey Arts features Guernsey-born artist Andy Smith, AKA Smithsonian Rösterino, at the Gatehouse Gallery on the Elizabeth College grounds on 10 November.

With a unique blend of collages, assemblages and mixed media installations - highlighting the relevant subject of climate and ecological emergency - this show is both thought-provoking in context and stylistically captivating.

It opens between 18:00 and 21:30, while the artist himself can be met on 11 and 12 November throughout the day.

Guernsey Latin Festival 2023

Held by Guernsey Social Dancing, this event is perfect for both seasoned dancers, and those wishing to delve into something new. The festival will consist of three workshops held at Ignite Studios, at the new Rock Health facility in Victoria Avenue.

Each workshop will be hosted by internationally renowned dance teachers Rasa Pauzaite and Manon Batrel. The event kicks off this Friday 3 November, with a two hour Bachata workshop held by Rasa, between 18:30 and 20:30.

Rasa will be returning to the studio between 12:00 and 13:30 to hold the Bachata ‘sensual’ workshop on Saturday 4. This will be followed by a Kizomba workshop held by Manon between 14:30 and 17:00.

Saturday evening welcomes dancers to a free social event at Amigos until 21:00. Sunday sees a morning Salsa class between 09:30 and 10:15 with Victor, and a Salsa workshop from 10:15 until 13:00 with Rasa. Individual passes range from £30-£35, or a full weekend pass is available for £90. Private classes are available.

SOPM Music for Everyone 2023

The School of Popular Music return to Beau Sejour Theatre with this year’s ‘Music for Everyone’ Show.

Taking place on Sunday 5 November from 14:00, the concert will feature a range of talent brought to the stage by SOPM’s skilled tutors and students. 

“This is a unique opportunity to witness budding musicians gain valuable live playing and stage experience while having a blast with their mentors”.

Jazz & Cocktail Hour at the Driftwood Inn

Join the team at the Driftwood Inn for a laid-back Jazz Duo experience, every Friday evening in November, 17:30-19:30.

As if being transported to the golden era of Jazz didn’t sound enticing enough, these events are also free to attend.

Calligraphy Classes

If you’ve ever considered exploring the art of calligraphy and brush lettering, now is your chance.

The Renoir Tea Garden, situated by Moulin Huet Bay, will be welcoming lettering artist and illustrator Beth Jarrold for a series of informative talks and classes.

The workshops are on 11 and 25 of November, as well as 2 December. Each day offers a variety of time slots to suit your schedule. Morning sessions (£48) will take place between 09:30 and 11:30 with french pastries, tea and coffee to enjoy while you learn.

Afternoon sessions (£54pp) are held between 12:30 and 15:00, and offer sourdough sandwiches and a cup of cider. Between 16:00 and 18:30, you can also enjoy bean jar and a glass of mulled wine. 

“You’ll go away with a glass framed initial which you’ve created and adorned in the class, to hang at home or gift to someone. You’ll also leave with a deeper understanding of how scripts are formed which will help you practise effectively at home
