Following a generous financial gift from life-long supporter Roger Perrot, Elizabeth College has begun using its new campus - to be known as Perrot Court after the Old Elizabethan himself.

Opening to students and staff yesterday, as they returned after the half term break, Perrot Court has been praised for its layout, appearance and facilities. The site will be officially opened by the Lieutenant Governor early in March.

His Excellency, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell will be guest of honour on Friday 10 March, along with donors to the College's Chance of a Lifetime Appeal.

A college spokesperson said that tutor groups have visited all the new areas and "it has been lovely to see such positive and excited responses from students".

The spokesperson also said: "Perrot Court provides a substantial enhancement of the facilities at the College and ensures that Elizabeth College is able to fully support the educational demands of current and future students."

The new layout means the college's reception has been relocated to Perrot Court, with access from Upland Road. A bridge connects the new site with the original college which dates back to 1563.

Within Perrot Court there is a new hall, a new Student Hub, new Learning Enrichment and PSHE & Wellbeing departments, new Sixth Form facilities, a new Drama and Dance studio, and a new student medical room.

The Social Sciences Faculty has been relocated to Perrot Court with new learning areas for subjects including Geography, Business Studies and IT and Computing.

The school also now offers dedicated meeting rooms for parents and other visitors to the college during the school day, and additional spaces for studying.

Perrot Court was designed by architect Levitt Bernstein, with RG Falla the main contractor.

Part of the design of the new site means the Principal's office has been relocated to Perrot Court while offering a view overlooking the original school site.

Mrs Palmer; who was a student of the Elizabeth College Sixth Form herself, when what is now Perrot Court was the office of the Royal Bank of Canada, said "It is a really exciting time for everyone at Elizabeth College".

"Perrot Court has been designed to provide flexible spaces which complement and enhance the College’s existing facilities," she said.

"This includes welcoming, open spaces as well as bright, spacious classrooms and study areas. It has been fantastic to give students the opportunity to explore Perrot Court over the past 2 weeks. Tutor groups have visited all the new areas and it has been lovely to see such positive and excited responses from the students.”
