The Governor's seal of approval for Perrot Court

Tuesday 14 March 2023

The latest phase in the opening of Elizabeth College's new building saw the Lieutenant Governor unveil a portrait of the school's Foundress, Queen Elizabeth I.

On Friday evening, His Excellency joined other invited guests in a tour of Perrot Court.

Members of the College community, including donors to the 'Chance of a Lifetime Appeal', were also invited to the event.

The appeal was launched in 2019 with the twin aims of securing the purchase of Perrot Court (formerly the RBC offices) and funding a new bursary scheme.

Jenny Palmer, Elizabeth College Principal, said the school has received many donations which help fund the opening of Perrot Court and the Foundation Bursary Scheme, which launched in 2021 and is supporting sixteen students across four year groups.

“Elizabeth College enjoys an incredibly supportive community, which encompasses former students, current parents, former parents, current and former staff and many others. I am delighted to celebrate the success of the College’s Chance of a Lifetime Appeal with everyone in our community and thank them for the kindness and generosity they have shown," she said.

"Undoubtedly, a really important feature of Elizabeth College’s culture is its inclusivity. Being able to launch the Foundation Bursary Scheme, far sooner than we thought possible, was due to the generosity of OE Roger Perrot. The majority of Roger’s legacy went into establishing the Bursary fund, something which was very close to his heart. Perrot Court was named after Roger for all that he has done for the College.”

Among the art work on display in the new Perrot Court is a portrait of benefactor Roger Perrot, and a mosaic of Elizabeth I - in whose name the school was founded. It was created by students Harry Blackwell, Phoebe Davis, Millie Fallaize, Chloe Sebire, Ines Silva-Rocha, and Beeke Voehrs, with the help of teachers Adam Stephens and Lou Stephens.

Mrs Palmer said the school community is delighted with the new facilities which are already making a "discernible difference to staff and students".

She thanked architects Levitt Bernstein, main contractor RG Falla, project manager Laura Priaulx, the Perrot Court Steering Group and everyone involved in the Perrot Court project.

Further open events are planned for the wider College community, current and prospective parents and Old Elizabethans to be able to view the new facilities with a public opening on Saturday 25 March between 11:30 and 12:30.
