Edible Guernsey - a local community growing initiative - is encouraging volunteers to get their hands dirty this bank holiday Monday.
The charity was re-launched last week and aims to "reinvigorate Guernsey's food landscape" by providing a space for community sustainable food production.
The site still needs a lot of work before it is ready though, so it is holding its first 'Get Your Hands Dirty Day' asking that volunteers go along to help with planting, setting up and laying irrigation lines, weeding and helping to cover the new community kitchen.
The space is nestled in the lanes of St Peter's with opportunities for growing, community events and educational space.
Local businesses have been getting involved, with Ronez having donated materials to create wheelchair accessible beds and the Channel Island Co-Op Helping Hands Fund donating £950 towards tools. The Guernsey Recycling Group has given the charity more than two tonnes of recycled cardboard to be used as a base for growing areas to stop weeds and Beau Sejour has donated the old flumes to create the beds themselves.
Volunteers can head to the site between 11:00 and 13:00 tomorrow in Rue des Heches, St Pierre du Bois.
Participants are reminded clothes and footwear might get dirty. Cakes and refreshments will be available.
More information is available on the Community Planting Day Facebook page.
