Guernsey's Deputy Bailiff has offered a warm welcome to all of the visitors ahead of the Island Games commencing.
Speaking at the close of yesterday's States Meeting, Jessica Roland told Guernsey's politicians that she had already seen visiting competitors around the island and was looking forward to seeing some of the sporting action herself.
"This Saturday, the 19th NatWest International Island Games starts," she said. "We've already noticed in town some of the competitors walking the streets in their different outfits. It's a fantastic thing to see."
With athletes from 24 islands competing in 14 sports at 25 venues, Ms Roland reminded those listening that "entry is free to all the Games' sporting events, so I commend everyone to see some of this tremendous activity."
Ms Roland said: "On behalf of the States of Guernsey, I wanted to give a huge thank you to the organisers, the sponsors the volunteers and the community as a whole for supporting this tremendous event showcasing our beautiful island and also to wish all the competitors not just from Guernsey, the very best of luck."
