A scrutiny hearing this week was cancelled after concerns were raised by officers at the States of Guernsey about internal data protection.
The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture was meant to be quizzed about its mandate by Scrutiny this week, but it was cancelled due to ‘concerns about livestreaming public hearings on the internet’.
The President of Scrutiny, Deputy Yvonne Burford, has attended several meetings since to find out more about these concerns.
She told Express that the hearing was postponed after the Committee received an email from the ‘internal data protection function of the States’.
“We were advised that some officers had complained/raised concerns about the livestreaming as it constituted processing of personal data,” she said.
“We are holding meetings with Law Officers, Data Protection and the ODPA to resolve this. We remain fully committed to livestreaming our public hearings and will let you know as soon as we have an outcome of our discussions, hopefully next week.
“Simon and I (who constituted the panel for this hearing) were not prepared to go ahead without streaming, or to continue to stream until we could gather all the evidence and decide on a way forward.”
