Children’s playground gets a new look

Monday 25 March 2019

The IT team at Specsavers have spent some time away from their computers, to further the firm's community work, with a day painting the children’s playground at Les Amarreurs.

The Vale Constables were having trouble painting the playground, so the Specsavers IT staff used their annual 'community day' to do the work for the parish.

It wasn't just staff from Guernsey who put the graft in for the local community though, with colleagues from Southampton joining them in the project coordinated, supervised and supported by the Art of Living Community Volunteers group.

It was last Wednesday morning when the six staff from Guernsey started work. They were joined after lunch by their four colleagues from Southampton who had unfortunately been left circling the island overhead in the fog at the airport.

The organisers said the volunteers all worked "with enthusiasm, good humour and focused determination" ensuring that the swings and the other playground equipment all had the sea salt wiped off, while the metal equipment was sandpapered and two coats of paint were applied.

This work was organised to run alongside a similar project at La Vallette, which saw volunteers coordinated by the Art of Living spruce up the area there ahead of the cruise liner visitor season.
