Children's best books in the Channel Islands

Saturday 12 January 2019

Four books have been shortlisted for the inaugural Channel Islands Children’s Book Award, as nominated by school children from Guernsey and Jersey.

Pupils in years five, six and seven nominated their favourite books of the past 12 months for the award, which is being jointly organised by the Guernsey Schools’ Library Service and Jersey Library.

The four shortlisted titles are:

• The Explorer by Katherine Rundell
• Sky Song by Abi Elphinstone
• Ella on the Outside by Cath Howe
• Kid Normal by Greg James and Chris Smith

Schoolchildren now have the opportunity to take part in book groups to discuss and review the shortlisted titles before voting for their favourite. The winner will be announced at an award ceremony at the Jersey Library in June.

Before now, children were invited to nominate through the website any book which they think best fits the award criteria. Once the nomination period ended, all eligible books were whittled down by a panel of judges into a final shortlist.

The closing date for voting is 10 April, then on June 2019 the winners will be announced.
