Items stolen from the Admiral Park Iceland store at the weekend included a number of charity boxes, containing cash which had been donated to help a number of different good causes.

Guernsey Police said six charity boxes were taken, including ones for the Guernsey Blind Association, Help for Heroes and St John Ambulance Service.

The burglary happened in the early hours of Saturday 15 September, with Guernsey Police initially saying that a number of items were taken.

Now, officers have confirmed those items included "a large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco products, along with a number of bottles of spirits.

"The offenders are also known to have stolen at least six charity collection boxes and their cash contents."

It's alleged two offenders were involved in the burglary.

The collection boxes belonged to the Guernsey Blind Association, Help for Heroes and St John's Ambulance Service and were branded accordingly so will be noticeable if they are found elsewhere. There are understood to have been two boxes from each charity on the premises.

It's believed the offenders got away from the shop carrying the goods away from the premises in Iceland-branded, white, plastic carrier bags.

PM Simmonds is investigating and asked members of the public to remain vigilant, and to contact Guernsey Police "immediately if they become aware of any persons offering smoking products or spirits at discounted prices or if they discover any charity collection boxes, which may have been abandoned in suspicious or unusual circumstances."

Anyone with information or who thinks they might be able to identify those responsible should call 725111 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
