Charities benefit from finance firm scheme

One of Guernsey's finance firms has raised more than £4,500 for two charities by asking its staff to donate their final hour's salary for April, along with other in-house fundraising ideas over the past month.

Throughout April, employees of PraxisIFM signed-up to the #GivingOneHour initiative.

Many did, contributing to a total of £4,644 which will now be split between the Guernsey Welfare Service and Age Concern.

The firm's Corporate Social Responsibility team came up with the idea, after deciding they wanted to provide financial support to charities which have faced a surge in demand for their services, while many organisations are also experiencing significant shortfalls in funding.

PraxisIFM held a staff vote and took guidance from The Association of Guernsey Charities to choose the two charities that will benefit from their donations.

Both charities support individuals across the island: the Guernsey Welfare Service works with a variety of people who find themselves in financial need while Age Concern provides support for older members of the community. Each charity will receive £2,322.

Janine Lewis, CSR team member and Director of Praxis Fund Services in Guernsey said her colleagues had been very generous.

"We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our employees at this difficult time. Many members of the community are experiencing hardship and are in need of support now more than ever from our amazing local charities. It was very important to us that we play our part in assisting them to continue their irreplaceable work and support the island’s community."
