Cambridge offer for Ladies’ College student

Wednesday 10 April 2024

An Upper Sixth student at The Ladies’ College, has accepted a place at Cambridge University to further her education.

Mia Edgworth said she is "so proud" to have received the offer to study Theology, Religion & Philosophy of Religion.

"This offer motivates me to continue working hard in preparation for my exams," said the teenager.

"I have a lot of work to put in over the next few months taking my final exams, but this offer has been hugely encouraging.

"The Ladies’ College has been very supportive. I’ve had an academic mentor and a UCAS referee to support my application as well as access to specialists for mock interviews – a rigorous part of the application. I was pleased to be interviewed by A-level textbook author, Libby Ahluwalia, who really helped me with my preparation."

The Ladies’ College encourages students to start thinking about Oxbridge in Lower Five and supports Upper Five students with their A-level choices to align with their Oxbridge aspirations.

"Mia has worked incredibly hard throughout her academic career so far and an offer from Cambridge is well-deserved," said Elizabeth Dudin, UCAS Co-ordinator and Head of Sixth Form Careers.

"We are all cheering for Mia and are already so proud of her incredible achievements."

The College also supports students with their super-curricular activities, which play an important part in the application process, said Ms Dudin.

At The Ladies’ College, Mia is President of the debating society and is a core member the school’s Ox and Ivy club, a forum where students can engage in university seminar-style discussion with the aim of building confidence and developing debating skills.

Daniele Harford-Fox, Principal of The Ladies College, said this has all helped Mia achieve her Cambridge offer.

"We are so proud of Mia’s achievement!" she said

"She’s incredibly active and engaged in college life through her role as Deputy Head Girl. This offer is a testament to her hard work and dedication to both her studies and personal development.

"Mia has played an integral part in several high-profile College events, including the Big Debate and the Great Climate Change Debate, becoming a Young Enterprise finalist and participating in the Collas Crill Moot. She has also served the wider community as Lieutenant Governor’s Cadet and is Chair of the Youth Forum and continues to be a member of the Institute of Directors’ student advisory panel."
