Hot on the heels of the Horse Show, the Donkey Derby and the World Cup final screening, the North Show opens at Saumarez Park today ahead of the Battle of Flowers tomorrow.

This year's event will be free to under 11s to enable families with young children to attend.

The Show opens at 10:00 on both days with the beer tent closing at 23:00 today and tomorrow.

Wednesday's highlights include the judging of the exhibition tents and the livestock, horse and pony classes. 

Titan the Robot, the Paul Hannam ATV Stunt Show and the Clwyd Axeman Display Team are among the visiting attractions over the two days, alongside local acts such as Guernsey Bubbles and the Guernsey Majorettes, and bands The Rubix and Sonic Bomb.

Alongside the entertainment acts there will be numerous stalls provided by local charities and businesses offering refreshments, competitions and goods for sale.

There will be story-tellings with the Guille Alles Library, the Friquet Family Area, a Reptile Tent, and Vintage Carousel Ridealong with a children's area and small arena too.

For parents and carers of really young children, there will be an area set aside by the breastfeeding support group Bosom Buddies offering shelter and shade.

The Battle of Flowers takes centre stage on Thursday with the afternoon parade starting at 14:00 and the floodlit parade from 21:30 followed by fireworks and the Big Band Collective.

Members of the public will be able to view the floats up close in between the afternoon and floodlit parades, while presentations to the winners will be made following the afternoon parade.

Two day tickets for the North Show are available on the gate with under 11s getting in for free this year when accompanied by an adult.

Public car parking is at The Home Farm Field behind Saumarez Park for £2 per vehicle. There will also be a cycle park in The Home Farm Field.

The usual bus services are running with bus stops along Route De Cobo and Route De Saumarez.
