'The best is yet to be'

A Good Samaritan has scattered small smiling faces with inspirational messages attached across Guernsey as part of World Suicide Prevention Day.

The hand-knitted faces can be found all over the island, particularly around churches, with a message for people attached - inspirational words such as: 'the best is yet to be' and 'you are loved'.

The messages also ask if you might need someone to talk to, and gives the number for both the Samaritans, 116123, and Guernsey MIND, 722959. Both of these organisations can help people when they find themselves in dark places, and in need of someone to listen to them. 

They also recommend your GP as someone to go and talk to if things are particularly bad.

World Suicide Prevention day is all about getting people to talk, and that is the aim of these smiling faces. Internationally, it is a commitment to taking action to prevent suicides, and takes place on the 10 September every year. In the UK and Guernsey, men are at much higher risk of killing themselves. 

If you want to find one of the small knitted faces, they were scattered around Town and other community areas such as St Andrews Church this morning.
