Beach cleans planned

Saturday 11 January 2020

A number of organised beach cleans are taking place in Guernsey and Alderney this weekend, with everyone welcome to join in.

Volunteers will be meeting at Grandes Havres in Guernsey today, and at Platte Saline and Crabby in Alderney, while there'll be another clean up at Longis tomorrow.

Each one is due to start at 14:00 and volunteers should wear protective shoes such as wellington boots and any other waterproofs as needed. Gloves, litter pickers and bags will be provided by the organisers.

The organisers include the Alderney Wildlife Trust, Pick it Up Guernsey, La Societe Guernesiais, Plastic Free Guernsey, Littlefeet Environmental and Herm Island.

Collectively they said:

"The Channel Islands join together at the start of the year for beach cleans - covering some of our islands' most famous beaches! We do this to protect our shared marine environment and work together to tackle the problem of ocean pollution."

To join in the Guernsey beach clean up at Grandes Havres, meet at the kiosk at 14:00 on Saturday 11 January. To join in the Alderney beach cleans, meet at Tourgis on Saturday at 14:00 or the Nunnery on Sunday 12 January at 14:00.
