Bailiwick follows asthma inhaler recall

Thursday 22 February 2018

The UK's Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a recall for a number of asthma inhalers, which has been sent to all Bailiwick Pharmacies.

The Committee for Health and Social Care says that is normal practice for any drug alert from the MHRA, and therefore is nothing to worry about providing the advice is followed.

The recall applies to products made by Glaxo Wellcome UK Ltd including Ventolin Accuhaler and Seretide Accuhaler.

HSC said a small number of the inhalers concerned have been identified as not delivering the full number of doses and "this may mean that the inhaler will run out sooner than the patient anticipated."

HSC said: "In particular regard to the Ventolin Accuhaler 20mcg - If a patient or carer has an inhaler from the Lots detailed above, they should return them to their pharmacy or their dispensing practice for replacement with a different Lot number."

The statement also said if anyone is concerned that they may have one of these inhalers they should, in the first instance, speak to their local Pharmacist who will be able to provide advice and guidance.
