Alderney approves emergency regulations

The States of Alderney have unanimously approved emergency regulations, giving the Civil Contingencies Authority the power to prevent, control and mitigate the spread of corona virus.

The regulations had already been given the go ahead by the States of Guernsey, but need support from Alderney to remain in place.

The regulations and amendments include:

• Screening, assessment and powers to detain infected people in isolation
• Control of premises, gatherings and the movement of people
• Temporary registration of medical and health professionals, including the modification of legislation relating to mental health and pharmaceutical supervision
• Procedures for the management of the deceased
• Procedures for full and committee meetings of the States of Alderney

"These are all regulations made by the Civil Contingencies Authority," said Chairman of the island's Policy & Finance Committee. "All have subsequently been approved by the States of Deliberation in Guernsey. They are required to be placed before the States of Alderney in order that they be 'not annulled'.

The regulations came into place on 16 April and will need to be formally continued every 30 days.
