Alderney Week begins!

This year's Alderney Week will be the 75th since the end of the Occupation, with the island stepping back in time with celebrations featuring old and new events.

Billing itself as "the Channel Islands’ biggest annual festival", the week's calendar already features more than 70 events taking place across Alderney.

The programme for this year's Alderney Week has been published and is available HERE. 

It includes traditional events such as the Cavalcade, raft race, sandcastle competitions, fireworks, and bingo, and some new events which are billed as "surprises" alongside "a few trips down memory lane...".

This year's organising committee are Team leaders Wayne and Vicky Chandler and their team mates James and Tracey Clarke, Claire Digney, Kimberley Clay, and Caitlin Cotton.

"We really hope that our theme this year will inspire costumes and decorations from all the years gone past," they've said in their welcome to Alderney Week guests through this year's programme.

"Can we recapture the magic of the 40’s and 50’s and the wonderful Ridunians that gave our island its heart and soul back post war?" they continue.

"Does your family have any special traditions from decades of celebrations, or maybe you want to recreate your favourite Alderney Week outfit from the 70s, 80s or 90s? Whatever it is that you’ve ever loved about Alderney Week- we want to see it!"

As well as looking back through the 'Step Back in Time' theme for the week, the organisers have kept the events bang up to date too with the island's 2024 representatives all involved.

They are Miss Alderney Rhian Miles and her Maid of Honour Anna Tangkam, who will both be present at a number of events throughout the week, often accompanied by this year’s Little Miss Alderney, Matilde Madruga, and Little Master Alderney, Marley McAllister Wilding.
