Airline fails days before take-off

Wednesday 06 February 2019

An airline promising 'direct' flights to Tenerife, via Jersey, has collapsed just days before its first flight of the season was due to take off.

Germania announced yesterday it had filed for insolvency and ceased all flying operations. It also said it was feeling positive about efforts to find a replacement airline for passengers.

The first departure from Jersey had been due to take off this Saturday, with flights continuing into April as part of CI Travel Group’s new ‘FlyDirect’ programme.

At least two passengers from Guernsey were booked on the first flight this weekend, with more passengers from the Bailiwick also booked to travel later in the season.

The travel provider said that its efforts to find an alternative airline to operate the flights from Jersey to Tenerife have been successful so far, with further announcements due shortly.

"C. I. Travel Group (CITG) is close to concluding this search and expects to be in a position to confirm details of the new flight arrangements tomorrow, Wednesday 6 February.

"CITG appreciates that today’s announcement has created uncertainty for its clients and is working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible. The company has remained in contact with all those affected and will provide a further update tomorrow."
