Age Concern fund fires up support for heating bills

Tuesday 02 November 2021

Age Concern has launched its winter fuel fund to help older people who face a choice between heating or eating.

Financial assistance is available to people over the age of 65. Age Concern is able to provide this assistance annually with support from the John Ramplin Charitable Trust.

This year, Age Concern is offering grants of £205, which is a £15 rise from last year.

“The decision whether to heat or eat has been a topic of discussion in recent months due to the debate on GST and the States' tax review,” said David Inglis, Chairman of Age Concern.

“The reality again this season is that there are individuals and households who will benefit from the grant. We are here to make sure they get that support.”

Express recently published news of other schemes of support available to those facing fuel poverty this winter.

Mr Inglis expects there to be an increase in demand this winter and urges anyone over 65 with limited savings to get in touch.

“We make home visits to people who are applying for the first time and provide any advice they want when filling in the paperwork,” he said.

“We will also be writing to all applicants who received the grant last season to offer them the same support again.”

You can find out how to apply by contacting Mr Inglis on 263228 or emailing dai@cwgsy.net.

Additionally, each parish has a welfare fund for those who struggle to make ends meet. You can contact your parish office to find out more about this. Meanwhile, States-run schemes of financial assistance are the responsibility of the Committee for Employment & Social Security, which is based at Edward T Wheadon House.
