1,200+ saving suggestions so far

Monday 10 July 2023

Any thoughts on how the States could save money need to be submitted by this Friday with a promise that the ideas will be considered.

The States agreed to try and reduce the cost of public services during the tax debate earlier this year.

When deputies decided not to introduce GST along with other changes to tax and social security systems, they instead agreed to look at ways of saving money or raising revenue through existing means.

Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller is on the Sub-Committee which is working to deliver those recurring cost reductions of at least £10m - £16m each year, within 5 years.

Deputy Kazantseva-Miller also tweeted that she has been "really pleased with the strong uptake of the survey by islanders, civil service and also deputies in first days since launch - some details to be shared soon. Don’t miss your chance to have a say as we are all users of public services."

More than 400 people had submitted their ideas by the end of last week, with 911 suggestions made between them.

The Sub-Committee has also been inviting suggestions from public sector employees through a separate internal survey. This has also seen high levels of engagement with 149 people making a total of 296 suggestions so far, bringing the total number of suggestions from both surveys to more than 1,200.

The survey is open until Friday 14 July HERE.

Ideas can also be sent by post to Sir Charles Frossard House.
