After a summer of running rivalry between a record number of Jersey businesses, First Names 1 claimed overall victory in the men’s competition of the third Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Corporate Cup race series.
Elian Private Wealth took first place in the women’s race and Mourant Ozannes Athletics came top in the mixed competition.
James Manners won the prize for fastest male in a single 5km race, achieving a time of 16:41 and Nicola Boult took the prize for the fastest female in a single 5km race with a time of 19:16.
Organised by Run Jersey and sponsored by Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, this year’s 5km monthly lunchtime race series saw 62 teams taking part from local businesses, totalling 248 runners - a record for the local event.
“The support from Jersey’s business community for this year’s Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Corporate Cup race series has been fantastic,” said Grahame Lovett, chief executive at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, offshore.
“It’s been a very exciting series to follow over the summer and it’s excellent to see the event continue to grow in popularity.
“140 runners competed in the first series and now we have more than 240 runners from a range of local businesses taking part which has helped to boost the event’s friendly but competitive atmosphere.”
The final race of the 2016 series took place in September where the winning teams were announced and prizes for individual achievements were awarded.
This year’s series benefitted the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled (JSAD) to support its work in the local community with a total of £3,000 being donated to the charity.
Digby Ellis-Brecknell, race director for Run Jersey, said: “The monthly challenge is open to runners of all levels and offers a stimulating change to the working day. This year we had entrants who had never run before but have thoroughly enjoyed taking part.
“Jersey has a big community of keen runners and it’s great that so many have managed to break away from their desks and work places to take part in this series. We’ve seen a competitive but encouraging spirit between colleagues and businesses.”
