Over £2,000 raised at third annual FNHC Scarecrow Trail

Hundreds of Islanders spent the weekend hunting for scarecrows on 2nd and 3rd July, raising over £2,000 for Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC).

Participants in the third annual FNHC Scarecrow Trail, which took place along the Railway Walk from St Aubin to Corbière, were asked to vote for their favourite scarecrow and this year’s winner was a family team led by Emma Le Main with their ‘Jersey Royals’ creation. The entry, which brought the Jersey Royal potato to life in scarecrow form, received the most number of votes from the public and the family received a cash prize of £100 as a reward for their efforts.

‘Every year we are amazed by the level of commitment and skill that goes into making the scarecrows and this year was no different,’ said Ivo Le Maistre Smith, Fundraising Manager at FNHC.

‘We had a range of different scarecrows on display and each one was unique and had its own quirky take on the theme. I would like to congratulate everyone who took part and made the event such a success, and particularly Emma, her children, brother and parents for winning the prize for best scarecrow with their creativity and hard work.’

The overall theme for this year’s Scarecrow Trail was ‘Royalty’. 30 scarecrows were registered for the event, with cash prizes also going to second and third place.

Lexi Bilson and Emily Satchell came second with their rendition of King Louis from The Jungle Book, and the Williams and Barrot family came third with their Freddie Mercury scarecrow. Other highly commended scarecrows included Queen Elizabeth I by Chantal Venton, Marie Antoinette by the Willows Day Centre and Princess Elsa from Frozen by Victoria and Aleksandra Pinel.

‘The feedback we have received from everyone who took part in the trail has been fantastic. We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who attended and showed their support and especially to the kind benefactor who made the event possible. With their help we have managed to raise over £2,000 for our nursing teams, which is a fantastic result,’ added Mr Le Maistre Smith.
