Variety, the Children’s Charity, is on the look out for shining young stars of Jersey with the launch of Variety’s Young Star of the Year Awards 2016

Now in its seventh year, the poignant ceremony celebrates the courage, creativity and commitment of children and young people in Jersey. The event will take place on Sunday 9th October 2016 and will share the inspirational stories of youngsters throughout various categories, including:

  • Courage

The public are invited to nominate the young people that they believe should be recognised and rewarded for their achievements. Nominations can be made online at www.varietystar.org.je, or hard copies can be collected from all Co-operative food stores, through Island schools, youth clubs and parish halls. Nominations close Monday 25th July 2016.

The top prize is an incredible £5,000 worth of travel vouchers so the winner can enjoy a family holiday of their choice. Winners of each category will also receive £500 worth of vouchers, and the runners up will take home £100 worth of vouchers. Every shortlisted youngster takes home a prize.

Once nominations have been received, an independent panel will have the difficult task of selecting the winners. All the shortlisted youngsters and their families are invited to the gala awards ceremony in October 2016. Sandra Auckland, Chairman of Variety in Jersey, says: ‘Now in its seventh year, I remain touched and amazed by the many truly inspirational youngsters. This is a time to proudly recognise the many deserving youngsters throughout Jersey. From anyone who has bravely overcome adversity, to those who have selflessly given up their time to help others in the the community or demonstrated exemplary skill and achievements.

I would also like to mention our fantastic sponsors. The awards would not be possible without them and we would like to hear from anyone who would like to sponsor the 2016 awards. This is a chance to recognise Jersey’s diverse and vibrant young community; children are the future and this event is so important to encourage their ambitions and future aspirations.’

Colin Macleod, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), The Channel Islands Co-operative Society, says: ‘The Channel Islands Co-operative Society is once again honoured to be part of this year’s Variety’s Young Star of the Year Awards. It is important for us to celebrate the courage, creativity, and commitment of the inspirational children and young people in Jersey who have gone that extra mile to make their community, our Island, a better place to in which to live.’
