Building on the success of their pilot programme, Digital Jersey launched their second coding programme sponsored by Polygon Properties (Forum 3) and Storm Technologies Limited on Tuesday 12th May 2015 at the Digital Jersey Hub. The programme is part of Digital Jersey’s objective of ensuring skills meet the current and future needs of business and the community.

The 14 new students, ranging in age from 17 to 49, will follow a six-month, industry validated technical curriculum supported by technical experts and mentors, giving them the skills and knowledge to enter work in the digital sector. The programme is part of Digital Jersey’s work to support the development of digital skills in the Island by directly responding to the needs of local industry.

Throughout the programme students will also have the opportunity to take part in an industry tour of local digital businesses in Jersey and participate in a number of workshops to develop their soft skills alongside their technical ones, maximising their level of employability. The first coding programme saw 8 students graduate this year, with 7 of them entering into digital employment or further education.

Alex Belcher, Director at Polygon Properties commented:

”We are proud to support the second coding programme after the huge success of the first. Encouraging a range of skills in Jersey’s workforce will benefit a great number of businesses in years to come. We are excited to be able to play a part in this.”

Kevin Taylor, CEO at Storm Technologies Limited added:

“As a software business in Jersey, we are always looking to nurture talent and we are delighted to support a programme that drives digital skills development on island.”

Senator Philip Ozouf, Assistant Chief Minister with Responsibility for Digital, also commented:

“This is an extremely positive initiative that will create a powerful bridge between education and employment. Supporting the creation of jobs in the digital sector, and development of skills for local people to fulfil those roles, is a key priority for Jersey.”

Digital Jersey is currently looking for sponsorship and/or donations to support the programme, and fund vital aspects including off-island trips, workshops and support for mentors teaching the programme. Those interested in offering their support should contact Rebecca Elliott at info@digital.je in the first instance.
