Jersey Cheshire Home residents are feeling warm and cosy since works were carried out by the Energy Efficiency Service. As a direct result of these works, Jersey Cheshire Home has saved more than £9,000 on its energy bills since 2011, and is set to keep on saving.
Jersey Cheshire Home residents are feeling warm and cosy since works were carried out by the Energy Efficiency Service. As a direct result of these works, Jersey Cheshire Home has saved more than £9,000 on its energy bills since 2011, and is set to keep on saving.
Since 2010, Jersey Cheshire Home has been receiving assistance as an applicant of the Community Buildings Programme. This scheme gives help to charities and not-for-profit organisations that provide services to vulnerable members of the local community. By improving the energy efficiency of community properties, the aim is to help reduce overheads and to provide a more comfortable environment for their clients.
In 2010 an energy review was carried out on Jersey Cheshire Home’s Eric Young House. Over the past three years the Community Buildings Programme has paid for a variety of energy efficiency measures such as installing loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, as well as various heating system improvements including a new highly efficient condensing boiler.
Built in the 1980s, the building is home to 25 disabled residents, but also opens its doors to other members of the public too.
Operations Manager of Jersey Cheshire Home, David Lord, said: “We’re thrilled with the work that’s been done through the Community Buildings Programme. Not only are we saving money, but more importantly, our residents have been feeling the benefits ever since.”
The Minister for Planning and Environment, Deputy Rob Duhamel, said: “We’re delighted that Jersey Cheshire Home is already seeing such a considerable energy saving, as this is exactly what the programme was designed to do. We all have a responsibility to help care for the vulnerable members of our community as well as our environment, and we’re proud that this programme is achieving in both respects.”
In addition to Jersey Cheshire Home, a further 20 local organisations have also benefitted from energy efficiency measures through the Community Buildings Programme. Another five organisations have been successfully accepted on to the programme, and are currently awaiting works.
The Energy Efficiency Service invites any charity or not-for-profit organisation that provides a service to vulnerable Islanders to apply for assistance. Organisations are urged to contact energyefficiencyservice@gov.je for more information and an application form.
