Butterfield has awarded David Campbell and Hannah Rickards bursaries after they secured their places to study at Exeter University and the Royal Agricultural University.
The Butterfield bursary is awarded annually and offers financial support and work experience to two local students for the duration of their chosen university course.
Mr Campbell and Miss Rickards both attended the Grammar School Sixth Form and will be starting their university courses this month. Mr Campbell will be studying Geography at Exeter University. Miss Rickards will be studying Rural Land Management at the Royal Agricultural University in Gloucestershire.
Kim Spaargaren, Butterfield’s Human Resources Manager, said “We have been so impressed with the quality of applicants for the bursary again this year but Hannah and David stood out as candidates as they are both so passionate about what they are going to study.
“Hannah’s course is a niche area of study and it is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors which will be invaluable for her future career path. David’s course will involve a lot of travelling and various field trips and the knowledge and experience he gains from this should help him stand out for future employers.
“We’re pleased to be able to support both of them through their degrees and we look forward to welcoming them for work experience during their university holidays.”
The opportunity to gain work experience was an important factor for both Hannah and David when they applied for the bursary with Butterfield.
“I want to work in professional services after I’ve completed my degree, so the work experience with Butterfield will be really helpful and will give me a great insight into the industry,” said Miss Rickards.
“I’m looking forward to starting the course and studying with other people who also share my interest in Geography,” said Mr Campbell.
“I’ll have the opportunity to travel to a major city in Europe in my second year as part of the course so the financial support from Butterfield through the bursary and the work experience will be extremely helpful.”
