White Rock Brewery strengthens its team with the appointment of Matthew Lane as Technical Brewer. The appointment comes as a result of the requirement to triple production in order to meet demand for the company’s craft beers, ‘Wonky Donkey’, ‘Lost Tourist’ and most recently, ‘Pushang’ which is being brewed in support of the Eleanor Foundation.

Matthew has been assisting the team with recipe creation and production on an ad hoc basis since before the company officially launched in December 2013. However, following the completion of a BSc (Hons) Biology degree and his return to the island, White Rock Brewery is delighted to welcome Matthew as a full time employee.
Matthew specialises in brewing science and, having authored a dissertation on beer microbiology, he will be putting his skills to practical use in his new role. Matthew will be assisting in everything from researching and sourcing ingredients to product development to brewing, casking and bottling ale, as well as having responsibility for maintaining stock levels and managing suppliers.

Matthew said, “I am delighted to have been given the rare opportunity not only to practice my studies through brewing but to do so in my home island as part of a team who share an uncompromising commitment to producing quality, interesting ales.

The support received so far has been amazing and I’m excited to play a part in expanding both the business and the range of craft beer available locally."

Co-founder Ross Gledhill explained, “Matthew’s attention to detail and his rooted understanding of the brewing process from start to finish make him a great asset. He has already played a fundamental role in the refinement of our current ales and, with several more product launches in the pipeline for 2014, we greatly look forward to working alongside Matthew and value his input in bringing these new products to market.”
