Bright Beginnings was honoured to welcome His Excellency, The Lieutenant Governor and Mrs Louise Cripwell for a special visit to the charity’s children centre and co-located nursery and preschool, which emphasises the critical period of a child’s early years in developing a secure relationship with their caregivers.

Taking place on Tuesday 1st October 2024, the visit provided an informal opportunity to engage with staff, children, parents, volunteersand board of directors showcasing the charity’s commitment to nurturing the island’sfamilies and next generation.

Bright Beginnings welcomes over 150 families through its doors at Delancey each week and in addition, supports primary school age children through its literacy programme The Next Chapter.

The vision for the charity, which launched Guernsey’s first children’s centre in 2017, was born from the realisation that families needed a place to “be”, free from stigma, where they are able to seek support and friendship and where a range of activities are available to support them in ensuring their child has the best possible start in life.

During their tour, the Lieutenant Governor and Mrs Cripwell interacted with the children, including sitting in on the ‘stay and play’ session where they enjoyed singing and reading with families using the centre that day.

His Excellency, The Lieutenant Governor  said, “It is so important for children to have the right start in life and this is precisely what is being achieved at Bright Beginnings.  Louise and I very much enjoyed the opportunity to visit this excellent centre, meet with the wonderful staff and interact with the families there.”

Informal discussions with the charity’s leadership team andboard directors took place throughout the visit focusing on the challenges and triumphs faced in parenting in the early years and those facing the team running the growing charity, which provides essential services to the community.

"We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Lt Governor and Mrs Cripwell; it was wonderful to be able to welcome them to Bright Beginnings," said Lisa Blondel CEO of Bright Beginnings.

"Their visit not only shines a light on the importance of early years but also inspires our staff, volunteers and families to continue working together to provide the best possible start for children."

The visit concluded with a heartfelt thank you from the Bright Beginnings team who presented a handmade card made by the children as a token of their appreciation.
