People interested in postgraduate programmes in management, governance, law and cybercrime are invited to a free lunchtime presentation next month.
The GTA University Centre is holding a seminar at its Union Street headquarters in St Peter Port on 12 January.
"These courses are aimed at bringing together like-minded people who want to broaden their minds, develop their careers and help their companies perform better," said GTA chief executive, Simon Le Tocq.
"It’s a fantastic opportunity to study with leading UK academic institutions and professional bodies whilst remaining on the island."
Professor Steve Brown, visiting professor and MBA tutor, is currently working in Guernsey with a group of 11 part time students, all senior managers drawn from organisations from the public and private sectors. He said that the GTA was one of the reasons he comes back to Guernsey.
‘Success for me depends on the quality of the infrastructure and the GTA's infrastructure is very, very good indeed, and the quality of the students is excellent. Put these things together and we have a winning combination,’ said Professor Brown.
The MBA is taught part-time in Guernsey by the University of Southampton and is an example of the GTA working with learning professionals to develop the skills and knowledge base of professionals in the Bailiwick.
Paul Cosgrove, chief operating officer of Jersey-based TMF Group, travels to Guernsey to join a group of senior managers and directors studying for a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).
"The GTA has filled a gap and provided the option for me to study on the MBA without having to travel to the mainland, an option which is not there in Jersey. The MBA is a world-renowned qualification and the GTA has given me the chance to study on the programme," said Mr Cosgrove.
Guernsey-based director and fellow MBA student, Jim Mallett, appreciates the opportunity that the GTA provides to engage with managers from other sectors and from other jurisdictions.
"The GTA acts as a centre for learning where you can meet and engage with people that you might never have met. For example, as part of the MBA course I have been able to work with people from outside of the finance sector and meet members of the group who travel over from Jersey to access the course," he said.
Town planner and planning law adviser, James Gallez, said the Graduate Diploma in Law was an invaluable educational asset to Guernsey, while Keith Bell, company secretary and corporate lawyer at Babbe, said the MSc in Corporate Governance had brought many benefits.
"Studying for the masters degree with the GTA has supported and added to my experience as a lawyer and has allowed me to improve the advice that I give in my day-to-day work. As a result of the experience, I have gained knowledge, an MSc in Corporate Governance and have also been made a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators – all of which I hope will help my clients and help me in my future career," he said.
