Girlguiding Guernsey will welcome members and external guests for Girlguiding South West England’s region roadshow on Saturday 24 February.

40 guests from across different organisations and charities in Guernsey, including the Bailiff of Guernsey, Deputy Bailiff, and States of Guernsey Deputies, will join 40 adult Girlguiding Guernsey volunteers in the morning to hear all about the work Girlguiding does to help all girls know they can do anything.

Mandy Hickson, a former RAF fast-jet pilot who was the first woman to fly the tornado on the frontline, will open the morning networking session with a keynote speech on her role as an ambassador for Girlguiding South West England, as well as her own experience of being part of the organisation as a child. Laura Cottey, the region’s Chief Commissioner will follow by showcasing the opportunities that Girlguiding South West England offers its 47,000 young members and 11,500 volunteers across its 16 diverse counties and islands.

Colette Merrien, Girlguiding Guernsey Bailiwick Commissioner will speak about opportunities in Guernsey, before members of the organisation will speak about their experiences going on international trips, what is being done to be more inclusive and impactful, and a focus on sustainability – all key areas of the region’s strategy.

In the afternoon, the region visitors will be joined by 225 young members, to complete World Thinking Day (WTD) activities from Girlguiding South West England’s annual WTD resource challenge. World Thinking Day is a celebration of ten million girls worldwide that has taken place on every 22 February since 1926. It remains a day for all Guides and Girl Scouts to think of each other and celebrate their sisters all around the world.

Girlguiding is the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated completely to girls. Our volunteers help local girls and young women enjoy a wide range of exciting activities, as well as acquire new skills and experiences – and have fun at the same time. Flexible volunteering is highly encouraged, with lots of different roles on offer for those who want to take a more adaptable approach to Guiding. Being a Girlguiding volunteer could see you going around the world accompanying girls on trips of a lifetime, spending a weekday evening helping girls learn a new skill or enjoying an action-packed outdoors adventure weekend as you make your own lifelong friendships. There are lots of different roles to choose from to fit in with your lifestyle and we will provide all the training and support you need.

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, ages, cultures, faiths and abilities.  For more information about volunteering with Girlguiding, visit www.girlguiding.org.gg  or contact girlguidingguernsey@suremail.gg
