Forest Primary School and Les Beaucamps High School were victorious at this year’s Guernsey de Putron Challenge

The Guernsey de Putron Challenge took place today at Beau Sejour, the second in a series of three challenges being undertaken, with the inter-island challenge left after an exciting challenge in Jersey last month.

The de Putron Challenge aims to showcase the brightest young minds in Guernsey and Jersey. The challenge brings together year six and year eight pupils to test their creative thinking skills, environment and literature knowledge.

Forest Primary School emerged on top in the year six competition with 8 points. Castel Primary School came in second place, only 2 points behind. 

The other two schools that made it through the heats to the final were Melrose, St Martins Primary School and Vauvert Primary School. 

The Channel Island Group of Professional Engineers created an engaging STEM round which was the first task both year groups undertook. The round saw teams create catapults out of wooden lolly sticks, rubber bands and a spoon.

After closely contested rounds in the year eight heat, Les Beaucamps High School and Les Varendes High School progressed to the final. Les Beaucamps High School then emerged triumphant with a 1-point lead, narrowly beating their challenger.

Every student that took part received a book voucher, and the teams that came in first and second place took home money for their schools. Forest Primary School and Les Beaucamps High School will be going on to compete against the winning Jersey teams, Jersey College Preparatory School and Victoria College, at the inter-island final. 

The final is being held in Jersey at The Royal Jersey Showground on Thursday 21 March, with the winning Guernsey schools travelling over to meet their Jersey counterparts in the exciting final round of the Challenge.
