Soroptomists mark International Women's Day

Friday 08 March 2019

As thousands of Soroptomists mark International Women's Day across the world, there'll be a gathering in Guernsey too.

The organisation is hosting hundreds of activities and events throughout today as it continues to highlight the economic, political and social achievements of women, while continuing to raise awareness of work still to be done to build a better world for women and girls.

In Guernsey, that will be done at a 'Balance for Better' breakfast at Les Cotils between 08:00 and 09:30 with a couple of guest speakers.

They are Dr Karen Marshall, Head of Science at Ladies College and Professor Juliet Beal, Chief Nurse for Guernsey. Among the women present will be students from the Sixth Form Centre, The College of FE and The Ladies College.

Balance for Better is the Theme of IWD 2019 with the Soroptomosts saying:

"The future is exciting. Let's build a gender balanced world. Everyone has a part to play - all the time, everywhere. From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance drives a better working world. Let's all help create a Balance for Better."
