Eight students have completed their Discover Digital Internship through the Digital Greenhouse with finance and telecom firms among the companies involved.
The six-week paid summer internship was designed specifically for post-16 students who are passionate about the digital world and are looking to begin a career in the sector.
Now in its seventh year, the programme has seen over 65 students taking part and beginning their careers in the Digital sector.
The programme concluded with a presentation evening in August where this year's cohort spoke about their journey and the projects they had been working on ranging from web and email development, building data systems, building and testing software programmes and learning about data forensics.
First Central Group, JT, Cortex, PwC, Deloitte, and Sure were all involved this year, with Digital intern Jack Bennett placed with First Central Insurance & Technology Group.
“I think the internship has made me more open to careers in fields of programming I wasn't as keen on earlier, such as web development, as I feel much more comfortable with that wider range of development in a professional setting,” he said.
Elliot Harris, who was placed with Cortex spent his summer learning new skills by building a company app.
“I developed a good understanding of Blazor and its features," he explained. "I have also improved my UX design skills and my thinking around making good choices for the future of a project.”
Elliot advised any students looking to take part in the 2024 internship, to “Go for it!
"Even if you are just beginning your digital journey, it's an opportunity to work with interesting people and learn from them.”
