IoD annual convention to explore Guernsey’s place in the world

Wednesday 15 August 2018

An expert on countries, cultures and globalisation will be the keynote speaker at the 2018 Guernsey IoD convention, which will consider Guernsey’s place in the world.

For 20 years Simon Anholt has worked with presidents, prime ministers and governments of more than 50 nations devising strategies and policies to help them to engage more imaginatively and productively with the international community.

An honorary professor of political science and the founder of the Good Country project, Mr Anholt indexes and ranks countries according to their contribution to humanity and the planet.

Also presenting to the 500-strong audience will be branding agency Moving Brands, which specialises in brand narrative, positioning and identity. The agency has been briefed by the IoD Guernsey committee and Chief Commercial Officer Hanna Laikko will report its findings on Guernsey’s position and the opportunities this presents.

The moderator for the convention will once again be ITN newsreader Alastair Stewart OBE who will question an invited panel and provide the opportunity for the audience to express their views.

Joining the main speakers on the panel are Julia Hands, founder of Hand Picked Hotels, Andreas Tautscher, CEO of Deutsche Bank, Richard Holmes, Group Brand Director at Specsavers and Economic Development president Deputy Charles Parkinson.

Chairman of the IOD’s Guernsey branch John Clacy said: “Over the years we have endeavoured to tackle some thought-provoking topics at our landmark event of the year and the organising committee believes that this year’s topic will be the catalyst for a memorable discussion.

Tickets for the event, on Thursday 4 October at Beau Sejour, are available at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/guernsey-iod-convention-thursday-4-october-2018-tickets-46355576778.
