A Guernsey medical student has been awarded a $30,000 per year scholarship from Butterfield Bank, to assist in her studies so she can become a doctor.

Kathryn Halliday is studying medicine at the University of Liverpool.

“When someone is sick or injured, their normal way of life is disrupted and doctors have the incredible opportunity to restore these people’s lives to normality, which I would love to be able to do,” said Ms Halliday.

She has received the European Undergraduate Scholarship from Butterfield, part of the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship for Employees’ Children. It is one of several high-value scholarships awarded by the bank each year, to a number of students across the globe.

They are awarded based on various factors, including financial need, civic engagement, academic success and leadership qualities.

Sonja Erman, VP of Human Resources and Chairman of the Postgraduate Scholarship Committee said: "We are delighted to assist all of our scholars and bursary recipients in their pursuit of higher education, and excited to follow their career progress. We wish them all the best in their studies.”
