Guernsey Post leads the way in Crypto Stamps

Friday 12 July 2024

Guernsey Post is marking a big milestone as it looks set to be the first postal operator in the British Isles to enter the crypto stamps market with collectable NFT’s.

From later this month, the crypto collectables will be available, enabling Guernsey Post to create a link between the physical world of collecting stamps and the digital crypto universe.

Unlike conventional stamps, Guernsey’s crypto stamps will be limited edition, non-postage, collectable products with a digital artefact designed for collectors and NFT enthusiasts alike.

Bridget Yabsley, Head of Guernsey Stamps and Collectables at Guernsey Post said it's an exiting time for the business.

“More than 80 years after Guernsey issued its first locally produced stamps, we are excited to enter this new market with the launch of Guernsey Crypto Stamps and to create an opportunity for stamp collectors and fans - and also for anyone interested in the potential offered by the digital world – to purchase, collect and trade NFTs," she said.

“Through our collaboration with StampFinity, we intend to reach a new audience whilst building on our existing community of stamp collectors worldwide. By establishing Guernsey Crypto Stamps, Guernsey Post is bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds in philately so that collecting and exchanging Guernsey collectables can be done through the use of blockchain technology.”

Guernsey’s first crypto stamp collection will feature Billy and Nanny, Golden Guernsey Goats.

Each crypto stamp collectable has a digital twin (NFT), which is stored in a blockchain and is activated following purchase through the QR code found on the reverse of the crypto stamp.  By scanning this code, customers can view their digital NFT online.

The physical collectable will have a more traditional art style while the digital renditions are intended to embrace a modern and more abstract art style.

When purchasing the Guernsey collectable, customers won’t know which NFT is linked to it, as each one has differing rarity attributes.

Some attributes are more common, while others are much rarer with just 1% chance of this attribute being on the NFT.
