It’s a steep tumble from the prize pots of a few years' ago, which were reaching £1,000,000, but organisers are confident of hitting their half a million pound target before the winning numbers in this Channel Islands' Christmas Lottery are drawn.
So far, the running jackpot for this year has reached £350,000.
Last year's total topped out at £545,118, but there's a larger drop when compared to five years ago due to the increase in additional prizes and games, which organisers say have proven popular. This year’s new draw is called Christmas Extravaganza.
While the traditional lottery ticket sales are down compared to last year, organisers are confident of reaching a £500,000 first prize. The draw, to be held at Island FM studios, will award 66 prizes in total.
The Channel Islands Lottery has raised millions for various charities across the islands, with proceeds from the Lottery distributed to worthy causes in both Guernsey and Jersey.
Jack Hobbs, the Lottery Manager for Guernsey Post, said: “The new Extravaganza game has proved very popular, which is great news for the many worthy causes across the Channel Islands that benefit from all of the Lottery games. In 2023 alone it raised £2.5 million in the Channel Islands for charities some of which provide essential health and wellbeing services to our community.”
Whilst the Dean of Guernsey, and Chair of the Social Investment Fund, The Very Reverend Tim Barker, said: “The Christmas Lottery games help many essential charities with funding. I encourage registered charities across the Channel Islands to consider applying for funding in 2025, as we are keen to support a broad range of worthy causes.”
