GET gets praise at Employment Awards

The Guernsey Employment Trust won the 'Small Supported Employment Award' at the recent British Association of Supported Employment's annual conference.

The award recognizes GET's work in inclusive employment, for their work with disabled and neurodiverse individuals in Guernsey. The team claimed the award, whilst competing against two other organisations: Bridge Creative and Salford Supported Employment.

GET's team of 15 aims to provide support and opportunities for individuals with disabilities to find and maintain meaningful employment. 

It says despite their limited resources, the team has achieved significant results, including a job retention rate of 76%. GET has also played a key role in advocating for the rights of disabled people in Guernsey, including supporting the passage of new discrimination legislation.

Nikki Ioannou-Droushiotis, Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, says, "The award is a true validation of the team's hard work, collaboration, respect and appreciation for one another. It is testament to our dedication to improving the lives of the disabled community in Guernsey."

GET was also shortlisted for another award.

Elaine Strappini, GET's Employment Development Manager, was shortlisted for the Jurgen Donaldson Disrupter Award, which recognizes individuals who are disrupting the status quo as Disability Confident Ambassadors.

GET says Mrs. Strappini has built new relationships with employers and strengthened existing ones, leading to 72 employers signing up to the Employers’ Disability Charter, which the charity created back in 2017.
