Cambridge Analytica CEO to speak at local Trust Forum

Monday 10 February 2020

Those attending the Mourant Guernsey Trust Forum will have the chance to hear from a range of speakers next month, including Cambridge Analytica's former CEO.

The day-long event will bring together professionals from across the private wealth sector at the first of the firm's trust and private client events of 2020.

Julian Wheatland will deliver the keynote address, talking attendees through the rise and fall of Cambridge Analytica.

"This year we're looking forward to bringing a really exciting line-up of global experts to address the islands' fiduciary community," said Mourant Partner and Head of International Trusts & Private Client, Edward Devenport.

"Our speakers will share their thoughts on the current market, alongside Julian's unique perspective into the world of data and how it is used, which is something that's relevant to us all."

Mr Wheatland stepped into the role of CEO in 2018, following the media controversy over the company.

After ensuring the orderly closure of the business, Mr Wheatland publicly commented in last year's Netflix documentary entitled 'The Great Hack'.

His address will also discuss the PR challenges posed by being at the centre of a major media story and the wider issue of how our data is being used.

"The day promises to give attendees insights as well as practical advice to take back to their own organisations," Mr Devenport added. "I look forward to seeing many new and familiar faces there."

The Guernsey Forum will be held at St Pierre Park Hotel on 12 March, and will be chaired by Paul Hodgson of Butterfield Trust, which sponsors the event along with BDO.

Topics covered throughout the day will include key cases from 2019 and their impact on the private client industry, insolvent trusts, updates on economic substance and a session on the trend, challenges and opportunities next generation leaders expect to see in the years to come.
