Applications open for C5 bursary

Tuesday 02 April 2019

Local students, currently applying for scientific, engineering or computer science degrees at university can now apply for the C5 Alliance Guernsey bursary.

Chosen students will be given £1,500 towards their course as well as a paid placement at the Channel Island company.

Head of Project Delivery at C5, Chris Ash said: "We are pleased to be able to offer students a contribution towards their studies. The scheme provides an excellent opportunity to make lasting connections with our experts across Guernsey and Jersey. The placement will develop their students' skills as well as their technological expertise.

"We are committed to investing in our talented young people and want to work closely with them to give them the best start in their career."

During the six-week placement, students will work alongside other bursary students and C5 experts. They will attend meetings, get involved in client projects and learn about different aspects of the business, helping them understand what it is like to work in the technology industry.

Last year the bursary students took part in an 'ideation' which saw groups of C5 developers and analysts work together to brainstorm ideas and solutions to local issues. The winning group came up with the concept of a 'Coastal Clean Up' app, which has since been turned into a reality. The app 'gameifies' plastic pollution collection and is hoped to have a positive impact on local coastlines.

"The best part of the scheme was taking part in the 'Coastal Clean Up' app project as it allowed me to try my hand at managing a team of developers - something very few university leavers can say they've done," said Software Developer at Bloomberg and former C5 bursary student, Daniel Wainwright. "The scheme is gold dust to any students that are aspirating developers. It provided me with a wealth of valuable experiences that prepared me for the industry and also made me more confident, both as an employee and a developer."

Interested students can find out more here or head to the C5 Alliance stand at the EY Careers Fair on 3 and 4 April at Beau Sejour.

Application forms must be returned to careers@c5alliance.com by 17:00 on 26 April.
