Julius Baer’s search for an undergraduate to sponsor and foster new talent has concluded, with Max Tostevin selected in Guernsey.

The new scheme includes a minimum of six weeks paid work during a university course, where those selected benefit from on the job learning through working closely with Julius Baer’s experienced team, and a ‘buddy’ to offer help and guidance during time spent at the bank.

The bank said Mr Tostevin demonstrated dedication to academia and an interest in working in relationship management in finance. He is a Business Economics student, going into his final year at Bournemouth University Business School.

His academic record and interests stood out among a highly competitive pool of candidates, it added.

Alexandra McInnes, Head of Guernsey Julius Baer, said: “Max thoroughly impressed us during the bursary application process, he gave his presentation on his part time job as a scaffolder, which was very interesting and something different.

“Young people are vital to Guernsey’s financial sector, and we think that Max exemplifies the talent and potential we seek to nurture. We look forward to playing a role in his academic and professional development.”

Mr Tostevin said he has always wanted to work in financial services:Especially at a company with opportunities to travel, so when I applied for the bursary, I knew it was the best option for me given its global presence.

“I’m honoured to have been selected as Julius Baer’s first bursary student and I’m eager to make the most of this opportunity.”
