Island Global Research is undertaking some research to understand the impact that COVID-19 is having on people in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. This is their own research.

They are running weekly surveys to track the impact on local residents. Each week they will release a different set of selected findings that are of interest.

Survey Results from the week commencing 23 March:

Island Global Research have been really pleased how willing respondents have been to share their views and experience so far, and wish to thank everyone who completed last week’s survey.

Some results from the first week of their survey are in the attached PDF and available on their website www.islandglobalresearch.com/news . Of note:

In Jersey:

  • 87% of respondents postponed or cancelled social plans or events because of COVID-19
  • 74% of respondents changed, postponed or cancelled travel plans because of COVID-19
  • 68% of parents/guardians said their work had been affected in the past week by restrictions imposed on children

In Guernsey:

  • 87% of respondents postponed or cancelled social plans or events because of COVID-19
  • 68% of respondents changed, postponed or cancelled travel plans because of COVID-19
  • 73% of parents/guardians said their work had been affected in the past week by restrictions imposed on children

In the Isle of Man:

  • 87% of respondents postponed or cancelled social plans or events because of COVID-19
  • 72% of respondents changed, postponed or cancelled travel plans because of COVID-19
  • 47% of parents/guardians said their work had been affected in the past week by restrictions imposed on children

Across the Crown Dependencies:

  • More than a third of respondents have been self-isolating
  • Almost 80% of respondents who were not self-isolating reported definitely adhering to social distancing advice in the previous week. Almost everyone else said they had ‘mostly’ been doing so.
  • 79% of respondents have been able to get all or most of the essential grocery items they wanted.
  • 65% of respondents have helped people outside of their household because of COVID-19

The ‘Impact of COVID-19’ w/c 23 March survey was undertaken by Island Global Research between 24 and 29 March 2020. The survey was completed by 1,388 residents in the Crown Dependencies (541 Guernsey, 437 Jersey, and 410 Isle of Man).

"We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to take part over the coming weeks:"

Island Global Research is running a similar survey each week to track the impact of COVID-19 on islanders. As always the survey is anonymous.

Those resident in Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man are eligible to participate. There is no obligation to complete the survey every time, but the more people that take part each week, the better a picture we will have of how residents are being affected.

This week’s survey (W/C 30 March) is now live and available at this link or via the news page of their website:
